Since the announcement of our beginning the process of perusing the possibility of a new church for St. Mary, the question I’ve heard being asked is ‘How far along is the process?’. Well, we took the initial step of mentioning we were thinking about it to the person in charge of the building/construction in the Archdiocese. The idea was well received. We now have a meeting set with a committee that has the ear of the Cardinal himself. We will present the developing need for a larger sanctuary/church, our vision/plan for such a sanctuary/church and our ability to finance/pay for it. They will help determine how we will proceed if the Cardinal agrees with our proposal. We hope that after the upcoming meeting, we will be able to report what the next step will be. Keep the prayers going up. It’s all in the Lord’s hands.
While you’re probably reading this, the Annual Rummage Sale will be taking place. It’s remarkable how much ‘stuff’ is accumulated from February to October each year. When the sale ends at 4pm on Saturday, Nov. 2nd, all left over will be donated to different charities. Nothing is kept for the next sale. I am amazed that each year there is still so much ‘stuff’ out there to refill the Rummage Barn! You’d think the ocean would run dry. Evidently, we all have ‘stuff’ that multiplies! Applause to the Rummage Team that devotes so much time and sweat collecting, sorting, pricing, storing, unpacking and staging all that is piled high in the Rummage Barn. They have become through the years a family/friends who enjoy being together on Wednesday mornings, chuckling over some of the ‘stuff’ donated and making sure it measures up to the quality of our sale. They’re working when it’s swelteringly hot, blisteringly cold or pouring rain. St. Mary’s is blessed to have such a dedicated group of parishioners who work so well together for the benefit, not only for our parish income but for all who come during these hard economic times to preserve their dignity by being able to buy at a bargain price what they can’t afford retail. Special kudos to Lauren Twining, the head Barn Bunny, for her leadership in nurturing such an amazing Team. If you’re looking for an opportunity of really get involved in the parish, there ain’t any better outfit to join.
